Tip of the Week #94 – Permission Sets and NAV Permission Recorder

Senior Consultant Jörg Hüner brings us this week’s helpful tip.

We are often asked how to set up permission sets for users. Since this is very customer specific, it is not easily answered.
If you just want a simple setup, you can use the Role/Permission Set “SUPER” – but this grants all rights to the user! This is typically too dangerous and is not recommended.

A new method available since NAV 2016 is to set up a new Permission Set – and then record the permissions, simply by letting a user perform his tasks while the system records his moves, thereby determining which permissions are required.

In my example I want to create a new permission for a calculator.

Set it up with the user:

On the Permission Set setup press the “Record” action:

Now ask the user to perform the daily work and the recorder will create all permissions that are required.

Thank you Jörg!
