Tip of the Week #180 – New Year’s Resolutions
Sales Manager John Mullins brings us some positive motivation to start 2019.
It’s the time of year when we all make those promises to ourselves…to lose weight, make more money, spend more time on the important things, not get upset with the little things – the list goes on and on.
What about corporate resolutions? Be more efficient, improve processes, sell more, be more profitable, grow by a certain percentage…just like personal resolutions, business resolutions are great out of the gate but often lose steam quickly.
So how do you make those words become something more than an empty promise? Why not leverage technology?
Bill Gates is often quoted with his view on technology: “The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.”
It is the companies that embrace this for the short and long term that will see a change—just like it is the people who continue to hit the gym through February and March will see the wins, while those who stop going in January will not.
Smart apps and wearable technology can tell you things like “you should take more steps” or “you should not eat more calories”—all great info to have so you can react to it. With the AI that Microsoft is working to put into Business Central, your business software can make intelligent recommendations for your company. Now you can have your system make raw material recommendations, forecasts on software, show scheduling change impacts, try to decrease accounts receivable, and much more.
All this change is great but one final word of warning…do it incrementally and realistically (another benefit of subscription software that allows for an intelligent roll out!). No one loses 100 lbs. overnight and no company is going to want to change everything at once – so work with your Partner and roll out your new software in an intelligent and palatable way, so you won’t lose your excitement for change and fall back into your old routines.
And – make 2019 your best year ever!
Thank you John!
