Increased Efficiency and Standardization at GCH
Galloway Consolidated Holdings (GCH) is a vertically integrated manufacturer offering end-to-end packaging solutions. GCH’s three companies—Bema Incorporated, Elite Extrusion Technology, and Bema Digital Innovations—work seamlessly to provide comprehensive flexible packaging solutions.
From flexographic printing and pouch, bag, and roll stock converting to co-extruded polyethylene film manufacturing and digital printing with HP Indigo technology, GCH’s 65+ years of experience and commitment to innovation ensure industry-leading quality and service.
When GCH began searching for a new MIS/ERP solution, their priorities were clear: ease of use, accuracy, and scalability. After encountering challenges with a previous system, GCH partnered with Sabre Limited, a trusted PrintVis Partner, to explore solutions tailored to their needs.
Challenges with Previous Systems
Jason Galloway, Production Manager at GCH, recalls the frustrations with their initial foray into ERP:
“Ease of use was very important. When we first entered the ERP space, we kind of got hung up on ease of use. We tried implementing another solution earlier and almost went live with it but decided not to based on ease of use and the ability for users to actually be accurate.”
The team’s hesitation to fully adopt their previous solution underscored the importance of finding a system that empowered users and minimized errors.
Discovering PrintVis: A Game-Changer
With PrintVis, GCH found a system that met their operational and user-friendly requirements. Reflecting on the transition, Jason Galloway highlights the immediate improvements:
“We noticed after a while, and you kind of have to go through it a little bit, but as we went through, we saw it was much easier for our users to utilize and more accurate.”
Accuracy was a standout benefit, reducing costly mistakes like reprints caused by manual errors in Excel spreadsheets. By automating processes such as film allocation and complex calculations, GCH could streamline operations, improve material preparation, and eliminate guesswork.
Increased Efficiency and Standardization
GCH’s implementation of PrintVis resulted in noticeable efficiency gains:
“We automated especially film allocation and a bunch of calculations that allow us to see what we’re doing, as well as getting material ahead of time to the press. Now we are very much standardized.”
The results were striking:
- Fewer Clicks, Simpler Workflows: A post-implementation user feedback study revealed that creating finished goods became significantly easier, requiring fewer clicks than the previous system.
- Higher Throughput: With more jobs processed through the shop, PrintVis enabled GCH to scale its operations seamlessly.
- Future-Proof Scalability: Adding new equipment, such as a press, was straightforward with PrintVis, ensuring adaptability as the company grows.
Overcoming Change Management Hurdles
As with any new system, change management posed challenges. Galloway acknowledges the initial resistance:
“When change comes, people fight it a bit; they worry they won’t understand what they’re doing. But with some teaching, the worries disappeared.”
By investing in user training and conducting periodic process reviews, GCH ensured consistent adoption and long-term success.
Advice for Companies Selecting an ERP/MIS
Jason Galloway offers valuable advice for companies embarking on their ERP journey:
“Just vet it through to make sure it actually works for you. Look at equal processes to what you do currently based on what the system can do. Have a checklist of what you can do area by area, and if there’s anything missing, work with your provider to fill that void if necessary. That is the best path forward.”
